Welcome! I look forward to getting to know you and your student and enhancing his/her life with music. This letter should answer most parental questions and may be used as a contractual reminder to your child of my expectations.

1. Please come prepared. Have all materials needed, including a lesson notebook, any music we have chosen, and working reeds. I suggest purchasing reeds online at www.wwbw.com or www.prowinds.com and will try to keep the music buying minimal for you. These, and others, are linked through our website, www.WOYOStudios.com. If multiple students are in the market for materials at one time, we may do a mass purchase to save on shipping.

2. Encourage practice. To be successful, each student should practice at least 3-4 times per week, not including the lesson. The lesson notebook will inform you of what your child should be practicing and working on. Even if you are not musical, you will still be able to make sure he or she is on task. Also, feel free to use the notebook as a communication tool between us. Remember, it is a better use of our time to reschedule than come to a lesson not having practiced at all during the week.

3. Feel free to stay in the living room during your child’s lesson. The lesson room is too small for three people and many times students are distracted by a parent’s obvious presence. If you would like to see a lesson, please let me know and we can arrange for you to sit in. Of course, you will be able to hear any music from the living room and we can leave the door open for you to hear conversation.

4. On your last lesson of the month, please pay for the entire next month by cash or check. Your payment will reserve your lesson time each week for the following month. If I do not receive payment by the next lesson, a $5 penalty will be applied for every week it is late.

5. Please be on time to every lesson. If you are late and if there is a lesson scheduled right after your lesson, yours will still end on time without any refund. If you are late and there is not a lesson after yours, you may still receive the full lesson time, but it cannot be guaranteed.

6. If you must postpone a lesson, please call as soon as possible. If you call at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson, it will be made-up at our earliest mutual convenience, without penalty. If you must call within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson, I cannot guarantee that it will be rescheduled. Please avoid unnecessary rescheduling. If I must reschedule a lesson, I will follow the same procedure.

7. Any lessons resulting in no-shows will automatically be charged. If half of the lesson has passed and I have still not heard from you, you will be marked as a no-show. These policies are to help all of us have a clear understanding and agreement about what is expected. Following them will keep the lessons as efficient as possible. As always, please talk to me if you have any concerns. I know that sometimes there may be a special circumstance that will cause a policy to be broken, and I will be sensitive to that. I have many exciting things planned and will keep you updated as lessons continue. You can reach me at (310) 975-4020 or woyostudios@gmail.com. I agree to the above policies and will follow them to the best of my ability.
